Natural Medicine consultants use traditional or alternative techniques to diagnose and treat patients or clients. These can be for relaxation or health purposes. 

How to become qualified in this field (learning path):

  1. NSC/ NC(v) Entry requirements differ depending on the educational institution.
  2. BSc Complementary Medicine

Level of Schooling & School Subjects:

  • NSC/NC(v)

Recommended subjects include:

  • English (home or first additional language) 
  • Mathematics 
  • Mathematical Literacy and
  • Life Sciences 
  • Physical Sciences

Length of Study: 

5 Years

(Postgraduate studies also available)

Employment:

Once qualified, you can register to open your own practice with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA). You can also register with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) to obtain a practice number.

You will always need to treat your patients within your specific discipline and according to the guidelines, ethics and legalities outlined by the AHPCSA and the Department of Health.
