ABOUT DENTAL THERAPIST

Dental Therapists deliver basic dental care and examine and treat diseases of the teeth in pre-school, primary and secondary school children. They will generally refer more complicated cases to a dentist.  

How to become qualified in this field (learning path)

  1. NSC/NC(V) Specific requirements may differ according to the educational institution.
  2. Bachelor of Dental Therapy 
  3. 12-month internship

Before commencing work, you will have to register with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. 

Dental Therapists may be employed in the government and private sector as well as in various private dental practises.
