Physical Therapist

A physiotherapist helps to improve a patient’s physical condition and have a wide knowledge base of movement, posture, balance and diseases and injuries. 

Physiotherapists will assess and treat patients by using their knowledge gained from many years of study and practical experience.  They treat and prevent disorders in human movement caused by injury or disease. 

There are additional courses that physiotherapists can specialise in depending on your field of interest including hydrotherapy. 

Required Qualifications

To become a Physical T herapist in South Africa, you will typically need the following qualifications:

  1. Certificate (National Senior Certificate / NC(V)  Entrance requirements may differ for the various educational institutions)
  2. Bachelor’s Degree (Bachelor of Physiotherapy)
  3. Community Service (12 months of community service)

In addition to the training for physiotherapy, hydrotherapy requires the completion of courses on aquatic therapy techniques
