Top Maths and Science Learners Offered the Opportunity of a Lifetime

If you’re a Grade 10-12 learner with an excellent aptitude for Mathematics and Physical Science/Life Science, and live in a rural area, then HWSETA has some great news for you.

HWSETA is launching the Siyakhulisa Mentorship Programme. Ten top-performing learners from each province, from different districts, will be accepted into the programme. There’ll be a focus on Grade 10’s, 11’s and 12’s from remote areas, to expose more learners from rural communities to the fantastic opportunities available at universities across the country

This exciting new mentorship programme will help the selected learners keep up their great results and then make sure they are ready for the jump from high school learner to student. The ultimate goal is to also offer these hardworking learners funding after matric, so that they can secure careers in the health and welfare sector.

If you’d love to embrace this opportunity, you’ll need to have marks that are level 6 and upwards
(a minimum of 70%) in both pure Mathematics and Physical Science/Life Science. This is because of the  entry requirements at university, for fields within the health sector.

So, what are the full benefits of the Siyakhulisa Mentorship Programme?
The HWSETA team and the mentorship experts will:

• Collaborate with various universities and have learners attend open days to assist them in making
informed decisions about their careers.
• Help learners with their mental health during exams by offering access to psychologists.
• Organise educational camps for learners during school holidays.
• Collaborate with schools and tutors to offer Saturday school to help the learners maintain their good
Maths and Science marks.
• Offer tertiary funding to legible candidates.

It’s hoped that the mentorship programme will guide the 90 selected learners in making informed career decisions. The learners will then also be perfectly poised to receive funding from HWSETA to study within the sector.

If you’re a school learner who is excelling in Maths and Science, then keep an eye out for further information about how to apply for the Siyakhulisa Mentorship Programme.
